The Shadow Monster likes it COLD...bring on the HEAT!

Today Torri starts radiation therapy in addition to chemotherapy. The first 3 rounds of chemotherapy were used to shrink the tumor back and now they've added radiation therapy to kill the shadow monster that has invaded her body. Torri will receive radiation EVERY SINGLE DAY except weekends and holidays for the next 6 weeks. They have made her a securing mask device that has been molded perfectly to her head, neck, and chest to secure her to the table so that the radiation can be delivered within a millimeter and target only the tissue that has been effected by the cancer. The first several treatments will target the entire area based on Torri's original MRI. Then the remaining radiation treatments will target the area where the tumor was identified on the mid-treatment MRI. There are many risks involved with radiation therapy such as killing healthy vital tissue, permanent skin burns/changes, temporary swelling, pain, and difficulty swallowing. Radiation therapy has been proven to kill this type of cancer and therefore we are hopeful that this will do the job with minimal longterm side effects.
